The Domestic Terminal return adds the planner's 20-minute shuttle allowance on top of the same-building cases, and the 06:20 return in that example falls outside the hours Garenta publishes — detail that a flat, one-size-fits-all leave-Side time never accounts for. Why Terminal 2 changes your car return plan. Antalya Airport (Fraport TAV) has sent every international departure through Terminal 2 since 23:59 on 27 October 2025. The airport's own homepage notice states that all international flights now leave from Terminal 2. The airport has not announced Terminal 1 as closed — no international flights depart from it, but it remains connected to the Domestic Terminal, and a free ring shuttle links the Domestic Terminal / Terminal 1 side with Terminal 2. Separately, International Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are about 2.5 km apart, roughly 5 minutes by car (no published shuttle ride time). The practical effect for a returning driver is that "the airport" is no longer one building with one set of desks; it's a cluster, and which part of it your rental firm uses decides whether you walk straight into check-in or ride a shuttle first. Two things can move against you on return day. First, terminal assignments have shifted before — Corendon changed its own terminal notices between 2023 and 2024 — so confirm your airline's terminal close to your travel date rather than assuming it hasn't changed again. Second, DHMİ (the state airports authority) posted a notice on 5 August 2026 about widening works on the access road between the airport entrance and Terminal 2, with controlled traffic during the works; if that's still active on your travel date, build in extra minutes for the approach road itself, separate from the drive from Side. Enterprise and Alamo both operate from a Terminal 2 location but handle after-hours returns differently: Enterprise restricts after-hours drop to 24-hour locations and asks you to tell the branch your return time at the start of the rental, while Alamo tells you where to park and uses a key drop box after hours. Sixt takes cars back in the airport's "Drive" car park, and the airport says its car parks are about a 3-minute walk from the terminal buildings. Garenta adds a shuttle leg by design — its desk sits in the Domestic Terminal, not Terminal 2, so the car goes back before the shuttle ride, not after. Europcar's location is named Inter Terminal 2, but because its exact return lane and hours aren't published, check the voucher your booking sent you for the specifics. For Avis, the airport lists the company, but its return location and hours could not be confirmed at all — rely on your Avis voucher. Side to Antalya Airport drive time: what is realistic. Verdict: budget 55–90 minutes for the direct drive on the D400, not the 3–4 hours sometimes quoted online. That longer figure describes shared shuttle transfers that stop at several hotels along the way, not a direct drive — it doesn't apply if you're driving yourself or being picked up directly. The 55–90 minute range is a converging estimate from several transfer operators rather than a single official figure, which is exactly why the planner treats it as an assumption you can adjust, not a fixed fact. Two things can add time on top of that range. Summer Saturdays are the resort changeover day on this stretch of coast, when hire-car and transfer traffic peaks — we don't have a reliable number for how much extra time that costs, so we give none — add your own margin on a July or August Saturday. Separately, KGM (Turkey's General Directorate of Highways) listed night resurfacing works on the D400 Antalya–Alanya section, between kilometre markers 19 and 25, running 22:00–06:00, as of June 2026; that schedule hasn't been confirmed as still active, so if your return falls in the early hours, check KGM's daily road bulletin before you leave. Fuel, inspection and deposit on return day. Verdict: full-to-full is the norm at the big brands — fill up on the D400 on the way and keep the receipt. No — that 2-minute allowance is for dropping off passengers and luggage at the departures kerb, not for a rental return; the airport is explicit that you must not leave the vehicle unattended and must not stop longer than 2 minutes there. A rental handover happens at your firm's return point — the car park, a branch, or a shuttle-linked desk — never at the kerb itself.
